HOBOKEN — There are giants (figuratively speaking, of course) of competitive eating that have entered America’s cultural consciousness. Joey Chestnut. Takeru Kobayashi. Jordan Rothman?
If the Hoboken resident has his way, he’ll soon be entering that pantheon of greatness.
Saturday, June 29, Roth man will be competing in the Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest Qualifier at the State Fair Meadowlands, held in the parking lot of Metlife Stadium in East Rutherford.
If Rothman chows down enough hot dogs at the qualifying event, he’ll earn himself a spot at the table for the main event, traditionally held at Coney Island on the Fourth of July — head-to-head against Chestnut, who will be making a bid for a new world record.
The qualifier will begin at 2:30 p.m.
