Dear Editor:
Carly Ringer is a good person that I am proud to have met this past year. Carly is well thought of by many and rightly so. She has served our community with a selflessness that is to be applauded.
Carly has lived in Hoboken for several years. She has volunteered selflessly and is a friend to many. I do not know a person in this town that has ever had anything negative to say about her.
Her volunteerism during and after Hurricane Sandy are well known. She organized over one hundred volunteers to clear debris from our streets. In addition, she organized volunteers to help homeowners and renters clean out their water damaged homes. I know this because I saw it happen as one of those volunteers that she led.
And let me tell you another thing; her concern did not end with storm victims. She cared for the volunteers, in her charge, making sure that we had enough food, clean water, and the right equipment to do the job. Her efforts are not mere “paper pushing”; it is leadership!
Among her many duties Ms. Ringer has setup and administered the Hurricane Resource Center. Her work is to overcome the numerous challenges that accompany the rebuilding process; everything from training volunteers to making sure that donations and resources of all kinds reach the people of Hoboken.
Hoboken needs good people. And, just like Ms. Ringer Hoboken is fortunate to have so many kind and caring citizens that have raised money and worked hard on behalf of storm victims. Actually, it is quite refreshing to see someone become recognized for their selfless service to our town. As a Hoboken taxpayer I expect responsible government. If Mayor Zimmer is responsible for hiring and holding onto a talented person like Carly; then great! Hoboken is better for it!
Carly’s story is the kind that we tell others as an example to be followed. In a crisis, she rose to the occasion. She worked hard. And, for her hard work she was recognized and earned the job that she does so well to this day.
Carly has never asked to be thanked for her service, but the time has come for us to give thanks nonetheless. For no good reason, some have come to muddy the reputation of this good person. And, like the storm, thoughtless damage was done.
I ask us to remember that a “friend in need is a friend in deed.” Carly is ever a friend to Hoboken; let us be a friend in return.
Please leave a comment thanking Carly for her service. Or, write another letter to the editor recognizing her many good works.
Sincerley,
