Teen movie night scheduled

The North Bergen Free Public Library at 8411 Bergenline Ave. will host Teen Movie Night on Wednesday, April 24 from 4 to 6:30 p.m. in the lower-level conference room.
The movie will be “Coraline.” Coraline Jones who finds a magical world that is similar to her own, but when her “other parents” try to get her to stay, she must look for a way to return to the real world.

Incumbents re-elected to North Bergen school board

The votes have been tallied and the incumbents have been reelected for three-year terms against the challengers from the “Save Our Schools” slate in North Bergen.
The incumbents that have been successfully reelected are Board of Education Vice President Edward LaTour, along with trustees Patricia Bartoli and Luis Rabelo.
Bartoli received the most votes with 4,594 which was 31.25 percent, LaTour had the second highest with 4,011 at 27.29 percent, and Rabelo with 3,947 which was 26.85 percent. Their challengers Herbert Shaw had 743 votes with 5.05 percent; William Koehler with 661 votes at a 4.50 percent; Marco Escobar had 326 with 2.22 percent; Odemaris Ramirez with 224 at 1.52 percent; Juana Dilone with 186 at 1.27 percent; and personal choice was 7 votes with .05 percent.
There were a total of 14,699 votes for the North Bergen School Board elections.

OSHA fines North Bergen laundry facility $219,000 for safety hazards

The U.S. Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration has cited Prestige Industries LLC, doing business as Prestige, with four repeat and five serious safety violations found at its commercial laundry facility in North Bergen. OSHA’s October 2012 investigation was initiated in response to a complaint and resulted in $219,000 in proposed penalties.
“The safety hazards present at this facility pose serious risks to workers and must be immediately corrected,” said Kris Hoffman, director of OSHA’s Parsippany Area Office, in a press release. “OSHA will continue to hold employers legally accountable when they fail to provide safe workplaces.”

Prestige Industries LLC, based in Jersey City, has 15 business days from receipt of the citations to comply, request an informal conference with the OSHA area director in Parsippany, or contest the citations and proposed penalties before the independent Occupational Safety and Health Review Commission.
