A mass of Christian burial was celebrated April 13 at St. Nicholas Church for Carmelo V. Casia, MD, 75, of Jersey City. He passed away surrounded by his family at Christ Hospital on April 8. Born in Narvacan, Ilocos Sur, Philippines, Dr. Casia was a 1967 graduate of Far Eastern University. In 1971, he moved to Jersey City and began his residency in Pediatrics and completed a fellowship in Neonatology at the Jersey City Medical Center. He has been a Pediatrician and on staff at Jersey City Medical Center and Christ Hospital since 1975. Dr. Casia was an avid tennis player who participated in many tournaments throughout the Tristate area. He was a member of the United States Tennis Association; the Philippine Pediatric Society in America and a communicant of St. Nicholas Church. A husband and father, Carmelo is survived by his wife of 40 years, Amadea ‘Medy’ (nee Madamba), and sons, Jeffrey P. Casia, M.D., Joseph M. Casia and his wife Lisa and Jason Casia.
