With first place still up for grabs in the JCC of Bayonne’s Indoor Flag Football Junior Division, the Colts (6-1-1) took on the Bears (4-3-1) in a week seven showdown. The Bears’ Drew Radil got the action started when he picked off a Colts’ pass attempt on the game’s very first play. Radil then connected with his go-to guy Matt Miceli for a 25-yard TD strike. Down 6-zip, the Colts answered with a 10-yard TD scamper by Erik Solis to knot the fray at 6-all. The Colts had a chance to take the lead but once again the Bears’ Drew Radil pilfered the Colts’ pass attempt. With the game tied, the Bears zipped into high gear as Alejandro “See Ya” Cifuentes rocketed 40 yards for a TD, followed by Drew Radil’s two-point grab, making it 14-6, Bears. The Bears’ maul machine defense then went into action as Victor Mendolaro, Akshat Thakur, and Matt Miceli forced a league-leading 12th defensive joint with a safety to increase the Bears’ lead to 16-6. Up by 10, the Bears kept rolling as Alejandro Cifuentes torched the court for his second TD gallop of the game, making it 22-6, Bears. After leading his maulers on defense, speedster Matt Miceli switched gears and blazed 20 yards for his second TD of the bout. Meanwhile, Ryan Griffin latched onto a two-point pass for a 30-6 Bears’ advantage. Leading by 24 points, the Bears unleashed another weapon as Griffin showed off his rifle arm by tossing a 30-yard TD dart to the fiery Michael Egan. The Bears capped off the drive with a two-point burst by Alejandro Cifuentes as the Bears built a commanding 38-6 lead. The Colts kept plugging away but the Bears’ Drew Radil continued to rule the skies as he picked off his third pass of the game. Trailing by a bunch, the Colts’ running game finally got on track as Nate “Cinch” Cintron, Da’mien Taylor and Erik Solis bulled the ball up-court. The Colts finally returned to paydirt as Christopher Ballance powered in from the five, but the Bears prevailed, 38-12.
