HOBOKEN post-Hurricane Sandy: Needy residents line up to get free batteries, food, diapers, coats at Hoboken High School; volunteers needed; where to donate; city recommends ferry for commuting

HOBOKEN — Monday morning, needy residents lined up in front of Hoboken High School at Clinton and Eighth streets to get donated batteries, diapers, food, and coats that were handed out by volunteers (see photo).
Monday morning, the city put out a call for more volunteers, since many people had to go back to work today.
The city also said that people should donate items directly at the high school, rather than at City Hall.
The city also recommended that people take the ferry from the Hoboken train terminal to New York if they could, since buses were crowded and lines were long. Note that ferry tickets are higher than bus tickets.
