Power Still Out Surrounding Main Business District, Residential Areas Slowly Recovering

WEST NEW YORK – Joe DeMarco, West New York’s Acting Town Administrator, confirmed today that power still had not been restored to about 30% of the town, especially south of 60th st, along Bergenline, Hudson and Palisade Avenues. The city also confirmed that schools will remain closed until further notice, but that if electricity is restored and schools reopen, they will remain open this Thursday and Friday, when they were previously scheduled to close due to the teachers convention. The convention, traditionally held in Atlantic City, was cancelled due to storm damage. West New York is continuing to operate a charging station and shelter from the town’s Middle School, and about 500-600 people have been taken advantage of the meals being offered at 9 am, noon and 6 pm, according to DeMarco. – Dean DeChiaro
