Stevens Cooperative School offers high school test prep to the community

Stevens Cooperative School will offer fall preparation sessions for the ISEE (Independent School Entrance Exam) and SSAT (Secondary School Achievement Test) starting in early September at both its Hoboken and Newport campuses.
“These classes are a natural outgrowth of the preparation classes that we already offer our own middle school students,” says Nancy Rossi, Director of Admissions and High School Guidance. “We have been an ISEE test site for many years, and have seen the growth in students from other schools taking this test, which is preferred by the New Jersey and New York independent (private) schools.”
The ISEE includes standardized multiple choice verbal and math tests that reflect a student’s capacity for learning; reading comprehension and math tests that show the student’s strengths and weaknesses in that subject; and an essay. The SSAT includes multiple-choice sections testing vocabulary, verbal reasoning, elementary algebra and geometry and reading comprehension, and also includes an essay.
The school will offer two five-week sessions, running consecutively, on either Saturday or Sunday. Students can sign up for all ten weeks at a reduced rate, and the classes are open to both 7th and 8th graders.
“Some families may want to have their student take consecutive sessions to gain familiarity and ease with the test,” says Rossi.
Space in the class is strictly limited so that student instruction can be individualized. The classes will be taught by current classroom teachers who are experienced in test prep strategies.
