Life’s a beach on Hudson River

Newport Green hosts outdoor party

Can’t get to the beach? No sweat! The beach has come to you in the form of Newport Green, a new (and rare) “urban beach” along the Hudson River in the Newport development.
Although officially opened and unveiled to the public in the spring, the Newport Beach Party, held on July 25, was its community christening. The party, which attracted more than 1,000 Jersey City and Hoboken residents, was like a neighborhood block party, complete with music, food, and family-oriented fun.
“It’s actually, pretty nice here,” said Jersey City resident John “Lhew” Rodriguez, referring to Newport Green. “There’s a sandy beach where people can lay out and look across the Hudson River. You get this great view of New York. They have a playground, table tennis. There’s a water park for kids. You get all this, without leaving Jersey City.”
Access to the party – like the park itself – was free and open to all.
