Police chase after alleged break-in

An Elizabeth man was arrested on Wednesday, Sept. 28 at approximately 12:30 p.m. after he allegedly broke into a house on the 1700 block of 78th Street in North Bergen, police say.
After receiving a phone call about a alleged burglary in progress, police found the suspect allegedly fleeing across the street to the Lowe’s parking lot, where a struggle pursued. The suspect then allegedly struck one officer in the chest, and elbowed another officer in the face. Both officers sustained minor injuries, according to Lt. Patrick Irwin.
Steven Cuartas, 22, was arrested and charged with burglary to a residence, theft, resisting arrest, two counts of aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, and obstructing the administration of law. He is currently being held at the Hudson County Jail in Kearny. Bail was set at $112,000.
