DAMATO, LORETTA

A mass of Christian burial was celebrated Jan. 24 at Holy Rosary Church, Jersey City, for Loretta Damato, 94. She passed away Jan. 21 at Centra State Medical Center in Freehold. Born in Jersey City, she was a lifelong resident. She was a homemaker. Loretta was a resident of Unico Towers, Jersey City for many years. There, she enjoyed playing Bingo on Mondays and Fridays and bus rides to Atlantic City. She was an active member of the Holy Rosary Senior Group, faithfully attending their Thursday meetings. She loved to eat, and going out to dine at various restaurants was something she truly enjoyed. In her younger years, she would venture to New York City to shop and “spend money.” She has been described by her family as a beautiful mother, that everyone should have a mother just like her. She was predeceased by her husband, Rosario “Sardi” Damato (1990); two children, Michael Barbato and Donna Damato; her brothers Sam and Michael Mitortando; and a granddaughter, Lori Richie. Surviving to cherish her memory are her son Nicholas Barbato; a sister Caroline Lalicato; and six grandchildren, Valerie and Gina Barbato, Judy Meyer, Nicole Catalzo, Kristin Weber and Michael Barbato. She is also the great-grandmother of 10 great grandchildren. Services arranged by the Introcaso-Angelo Funeral Home, Jersey City.
