A funeral mass was offered Jan. 24 at St. Joseph’s Church, Hillsborough, for Catherine M. Avery Adams, 89. She died Jan. 20 surrounded by her family. Catherine was born to Catherine and Clarence Avery in Jersey City. Catherine married John J. Adams in 1946 and they made their home in Jersey City. Catherine is survived by four children: Kathryn and her husband Martin of Cumming, Ga.; John and his wife Maryellen of Jersey City; Michael and his wife Mary Pat of Hillsborough; and Marybeth and her husband John of Easton, Pa. She was the grandmother of nine and great grandmother of nine. She was predeceased by her husband of 46 years, John and her brother Walter Avery and many nieces and nephews. Catherine’s career in banking ended with her retirement from Provident Savings Bank as an Assistant Vice President in 1984 after 21 years of stellar service. Upon retirement Catherine and John made their home in Whiting, where they became active in volunteer work and their community. She moved to Hillsborough in 2002.
