MANENTE, NICK

Funeral mass was offered Jan. 3 at St. Francis R.C. Church in Hoboken for Nick Manente, 90, of Hoboken. He passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Dec. 29 at Meadowlands Hospital in Secaucus. Nick was employed for more than 35 years with the Otis Elevator Company in Harrison, and later worked for the Department of Parks for the City of Hoboken. Mr. Manente was a serviceman in the U.S. Army during World War II. He emigrated from Molfetta Italy in 1936 to Hoboken. He was a Charter Member of the Knights of Columbus, Mary Immaculate Council, Secaucus, and also belonged to the Knights of Columbus of North Arlington, Mnsr. Peter B. O’Connor Council, on the level of 4th Degree. Nick was a past president of the Union Progressiva Molfetta Society. He was the husband of the late Anna. Surviving are his children, Secaucus Board of Education Trustee and Hoboken School Teacher Salvatore Manente; retired Hoboken Police Lieutenant Nicholas Jr.; Raffaella Tarabokija of the Hoboken H.O.P.E.S. Program, and Maria Olsen of the Good Council Program of Hoboken; a sister Rose DeSteno; his daughters-in law Angela and Ann Marie; his sons-in-law Ivan and William; and eight grandchildren, Salvatore Jr., Amanda, Danielle, Nicholas III, William, Adam, Lisa, and Anna. Mr. Manente was predeceased by a sister, Marie Louise, and a brother, Pasquale. Services arranged by the Failla Memorial Home, Hoboken.
