Police should be treated with dignity

Dear Editor:
It is incredibly unfortunate that any police officer would have to suffer layoffs or demotions. Without a doubt, we need our men and women in blue to keep our community safe. It is disrespectful to have a politician take advantage of such a predicament and promote himself in the midst of such a painful time for the police officers, the city government, and taxpayers alike. I hope that in the future, the police department is given the dignity that they deserve and not used to promote an individual’s campaign. I do sincerely hope that some compromise can be reached to keep the police officers. I also hope the city government and the mayor will continue to investigate ways to lower our taxes. The choices can be few and tough, but we are a resilient, diversified, and talented city. I am sure that answers can be found.
