Allegedly intoxicated – on a Vespa
On Sept. 26 at approximately 8:45 p.m., Chad Cunningham, 36, of New York City, was arrested on drunk driving charges after he had an accident while driving his 2009 blue Vespa scooter.
According to a police report, Cunningham allegedly attempted to pass another driver on the right side as they traveled north on Boulevard East, but they collided as the other vehicle attempted to turn into the Hess gas station near Marginal Highway.
Police said that Cunningham allegedly displayed signs of intoxication to responding officers and was brought in to be tested.
According to police, the test showed that his blood alcohol content was .13 and Cunningham, who also had a passenger on his Vespa at the time of the accident, was then charged with driving while intoxicated and reckless driving.
Weird wagon cargo yields arrest on prior warrants
On Sept. 23 at approximately 10:30 a.m., police observed a man wheeling a safe down the street near Liberty Place and Park Avenue in a children’s wagon.
According to a police report, when police stopped the man, he said he had found the safe in the garbage, and allegedly gave them a false name.
However, after they fingerprinted him, police said they obtained his correct identity and found out that he had active warrants in Illinois.
The man was arrested on the outstanding warrants. Police later confirmed that the safe had indeed been something that a resident had thrown out.
Alleged perp flees accident scene… towards police station
Edgar Alatrist, 28, of Passaic, was arrested and charged with obstructing administration of the law or other government function after he fled the scene of an accident on Sept. 23.
According to a police report, at approximately 10:30 p.m., a vehicle accident was reported. When police responded to the scene near Marginal Highway and Boulevard East, they found Alatrist allegedly fleeing the scene on foot.
Alatrist however ran in the direction of the police parking lot and was quickly apprehended.
Police said they believe Alatrist fled the scene due to problems with his license.
20-year-old arrested on alcohol charges
Naisha Correa, 20, of Union City was arrested and charged with underage consumption of alcohol on Sept. 23 at approximately 4 a.m., after officers on patrol in the area of Dewar Place near Highwood Avenue observed the young woman stumbling on the street.
When police approached Correa they determined she was “intoxicated beyond ability to care for herself,” and they had an ambulance respond to the scene.
Correa was admitted to Hoboken University Medical Center, where police discovered she was underage and also had outstanding warrants from North Bergen.
Correa was treated and released from Hoboken University Medical Center, but has pending court dates in both North Bergen and Weehawken.
Teen arrested for allegedly stealing at Pathmark
On Sept. 21, a 16-year-old Union City girl was arrested after she was allegedly found attempting to steal $66 worth of merchandise on the Pathmark on Park Avenue, according to a police report.
The teen was charged with juvenile delinquency and released to her mother.
The return of gas siphoning?
A Weehawken resident reported to police that sometime between Sept. 16 and Sept. 17 someone had siphoned half a tank of gas out of her 2007 Jeep. According to the police report, the woman said when she parked the car, it had a full tank of gas, but the following morning only half a tank was left.
Police in pursuit of purse snatcher
According to a police report, on Sept. 25 at approximately 1 p.m., a woman put her purse on the conveyer belt counter at a closed register at Pathmark.
When she walked away, someone stole her purse. Police said the face of the suspect has been caught on surveillance video from the store, and they were able to confirm that the suspect picked up the purse after the woman walked away and shoved it in between a newspaper before walking out of the store.
Although there was only $2 and some coins inside, the total value was listed at $155 for the stolen item, which was a Coach purse.
Car windows broken along Pershing Road, another on Clifton Terrace
According to police, the windows on four cars were broken around 3 a.m. on Sept. 19. Police said it appeared that the alleged perpetrators went from car to car, all of which were parked next to each other, breaking windows on the sidewalk side. Nothing was taken from any of the cars.
The cars involved in the incident had New Jersey and Pennsylvania plates, but Deputy Chief Jeffrey Fulcher said there was no pattern with regard to type, color, or other identifying markers on the cars.
Later that same day, sometime between 8 p.m. and 11 p.m., a window was found broken in another car on Clifton Terrace. A brick was found inside of that car, but nothing was taken.
Car break-in at waterfront parking lot
Sometime between Sept. 25 and Sept. 26, a 1999 Acura belonging to a North Bergen woman was broken into while parked in a lot at 1200 Harbor Blvd. According to police, there were no signs of forced entry, but when the woman returned to her car, she found the light on inside and the trunk open.
Her purse, which contained her social security card, debit card, and two credit cards, had been taken from the trunk.
However, police said that the woman was able to cancel the cards prior to them being used.
