Secaucus plans a full calendar of summer events

Dear Editor:
I’m writing to let everyone know about the community events we have planned for the summer months. We think there’s such a variety to choose from that everyone will find something to enjoy.
The Town’s July 4th celebration will take place on Friday, July 2nd at the swim complex from 4 to 10 pm. There will be food and entertainment with fireworks beginning at 9 p.m. The celebration will be open to residents or guests of residents only. There is no charge for admission, but identification with proof of address must be shown at the entrance.
The Summer Concert Series will kick off on Thursday, July 8th at 7 p.m. at the Buchmuller Park amphitheater with the music of “45 rpm”, a doo wop rock n’ roll band. The concerts will run every Thursday in July and August.
A Farmers’ Market will take place in the library parking lot every Friday from 1 to 7 p.m. beginning Friday, July 9th through the end of October. In addition to fruits, vegetables and specialty products from Jersey farms, Pennsylvania Amish farmers will also be offering their produce and baked goods.
A teen concert will be held on Wednesday, July 14th at 7 p.m. at Buchmuller Park. Stay tuned for details about movies under the stars for kids and seniors and a pool night for teens. We are in the process of putting together a calendar of upcoming movies, concerts, and other youth activities, which will be published in the local newspapers and can be found on Comcast public access Channel 36 and the Town’s website, secaucusnj.org.
On Saturday, July 17th we will have the first ever Town giant flea market at the high school from 8:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. This will benefit the Municipal Youth Alliance. If you’re interested in reserving a table, please call Lisa Snedeker at (201) 330-2014 for more details. This is a great way to recycle items that you are no longer using but are still good and can find a new home elsewhere.
On that same day, Saturday July 17th, starting at noon, the K&S annual picnic will take place in Schmidt’s Woods. The picnic this year is being held in honor of the memory of Christopher Segarra. Please come out to enjoy the day and support this worthy organization.
As you can see, there are plenty of things to do. Please mark your calendar to come out and join us this summer!

Sincerely,
Mayor Mike Gonnelli
