Maurice Hines at the Amas Musical Theater Gala

Chantal Lopez, a senior in the Math & Science Academy at Secaucus High School, recently performed in the opening act for Maurice Hines at the Amas Musical Theater Gala on March 1st. Maurice Hines (brother of the late actor and dancer Gregory Hines), is an acclaimed dancer, actor, choreographer and director, with numerous Broadway, television and movie credits. His most recent Broadway venture was ‘Hot Feet”, which he conceived, choreographed and directed.

Last fall, Chantal was selected to participate in the Amas Musical Theatre Teen Academy. She was among dozens of teens from the tri-state area that auditioned. Amas Musical Theatre was founded 40 years ago by Rosetta LeNoire, who is better known for her role as Mother Winslow on the TV show “Family Matters”. Amas Musical Theatre is a New York City non-profit theatre devoted to the creation, development and professional production of new American musicals, the celebration of diversity, the emergence of new artistic talent, and the training of young people. Chantal is now in rehearsals for The Pajama Game, where she will be playing the female lead, “Babe” Williams, and is also the dance captain in this off-off Broadway production. The show will run the second and third week of May at the 14th Street Y Theatre in New York City.
