Funeral services took place Jan. 25 for Thomas W. Jones, 73. Husband for 51 years of Rita, he passed away suddenly on Jan. 21, at St. Barnabas Medical Center. He was a life-long resident of Jersey City. Tom retired from the Jersey City Police Department in 1994. He was passionate about his career, dedicated to the citizens of Jersey City and well respected within the department. During his career, Tom received numerous awards for his service to the community. He was a member of the Police Officer’s Benevolent Association, Fraternal Order of Police, Honor Legion and the Detective’s Benevolent Association. Tom also served in the U.S. Army spending his tour in Germany. Surviving are his children, Lisa Babiak, Thomas W. Jones, Jr. (J.C.P.D). and Christine Markenstein; their spouses, Ronald Babiak (J.C.P.D.), Angela Silva-Jones and Daniel Markenstein. He is also survived by four grandchildren, Ronald Babiak, Jr., Sabrina Jones, Isabella Jones and Caitlin Markenstein. He was predeceased by his parents, Thomas and Emily Jones and his sister Althea Gallagher. Surviving siblings are Charlotte Mawhiney and Leonard Jones.
