Meadowlands Hospital in Secaucus sold; will continue operations

SECAUCUS AND BEYOND – LibertyHealth, the company that owns Jersey City Medical Center in Jersey City and Meadowlands Hospital in Secaucus, signed a contract Friday to sell the 230-bed Meadowland Hospital to a company called MHA LLC. The new owner will maintain Meadowlands Hospital as an acute care facility, they said, meaning it will continue its regular operations.
Considering the number of New Jersey hospitals that have closed in recent years due to financial difficulties, including two in Hudson County, the fact that it will remain a hospital may be welcome news for local residents.
LibertyHealth officials said in a statement Friday, “Finding a qualified buyer with substantial healthcare experience that would continue the operation as an acute care hospital was the primary objective of LibertyHealth. The new owner plans on expanding the number of services and physicians who work at the hospital and working with the existing medical staff to provide a continued high level of healthcare to the residents in the area. Meadowlands Hospital continues to have high patient satisfaction ratings.”
The statement added, “Ownership of the acute care hospital will be transferred upon regulatory approval by both the NJ State Department of Health and Senior Services and the State Attorney General. It is anticipated that application to the state will occur by February 1.”
