A funeral mass was celebrated July 16 at St. Francis R.C. Church, Hoboken, for John DePalma, 60. He passed away July 12 at the Compassionate Care Hospice of Hackensack, following a courageous battle with brain cancer. John was born in Jersey City in 1949 to John Louis DePalma and Loretta (Christensen). He graduated from Hoboken High School in 1968 and went on to earn a BA in Education from Jersey City State College. John spent his life dedicated to the Hoboken community in which he was born and raised, serving as the Deputy City Clerk since 1994. He was a founding member of the Hoboken Historical Society and has been hosting annual summer concerts at Church Square Park since 1986. John was also a member of St. Francis Church in Hoboken. He found joy in numerous hobbies including photography, the collection of Hudson County historical memorabilia, but spending time with his family was always a priority. John is survived by his mother Loretta; his former wife, Claire McHale; their daughter Christina Lyon and her husband Joseph. He is also survived by uncles, cousins, and friends who will all miss him dearly. Services arranged by the Failla Memorial Home, Hoboken.
