ZALIM, RAMCHARAN

A funeral service was held July 5 for Ramcharan Zalim, known as Harry Persaud, of Jersey City. He passed away at Christ Hospital on July 2 at the age of 75. Harry was born in Guyana and emigrated to the United States in 1989 with his family. In the late 1980s, he was mayor of the town of Rose Hall in Guyana. He was also a successful businessman, for 35 years the owner of a grocery store in the village of Williamsburg in Guyana. He retired last year from the Old Dominion Trucking Company in Jersey City, where he was a security guard. He was a hardworking man and a loving father and grandfather. Harry is survived his by wife of 57 years, Maturhani Zalim, of Jersey City; his son Anand Ramcharan and his wife, Kavita, of Jersey City; his daughter Kalowtie Bahadur and her husband, Mahendra, of Livingston; his daughter Vimala Chandan and her husband, Munraj, of Jersey City; his sisters, Kunti Rhambarose known as Daro, and Khemrajie Budhar, known as Doris, both of New York City; his granddaughters, Gaiutra Bahadur, Dakashna Lang, Reena Bahadur and Govindi Shyla Ramcharan and his grandson Dev Anand Ramcharan. Services arranged by the Plaza Funeral Home, Jersey City.
