Hoboken public safety director calls for end to St. Pat’s Parade

Hoboken Public Safety Director Bill Bergin said because of the injuries and dangers surrounding partying the Saturday of Hoboken’s St. Patrick’s Day Parade, the event should be canceled, according to an article in the Jersey Journal. Others say they should move it to a weekday so it doesn’t become a day-long mile-square beerfest.
According to the newspaper, “Hoboken police reported more than 80 injuries in connection with the St. Patrick’s Day Parade Saturday and issued 376 summonses, including 220 for open alcohol and 52 for public urination.”
City officials are holding meetings this week that should determine changes that will be made for next year. We’ll update you when we know the outcome.
