Girl Scout annual cookie sale

Dear Editor:

As American as baseball and Mom’s apple pie, it’s time for the annual Girl Scout Council of Greater Essex and Hudson Counties’ cookie sale on now through March 22, 2004. This year, there are two brand new cookies: Double Dutch and Lemon Coolers. Double Dutch are doubly delicious, with double the chocolate chips; they’re a chocolate-packed cookie treat! Lemon Coolers are refreshing and light, with zesty lemon slices, all lemon chips and cool powdered sugar. They’re both scrumptious!

Get your share of Double Dutch, Lemon Coolers or any of the old favorites including Thin Mints and Samoas, from any of the 7,000 Girl Scouts in Greater Essex and Hudson Counties. Cookies will be delivered starting February 21, 2004. Girl Scout cookies are still priced at only $3.50 per box. All the proceeds from the cookie sale stay here in Greater Essex and Hudson Counties, directly benefiting the Girl Scouts in our communities, including your local Girl Scout troop. Want to order cookies, but don’t know any Girl Scouts? Call the Girl Scout Council of Greater Essex and Hudson Counties for information on ordering, 973-746-8200.

For Girl Scout troops, the sale provides funds to support troop activities such as field trips, camping and service projects. Cookie sales also provide funds to recruit and train adult leaders, organize Girl Scout troops, provide Council-wide programs on such topics as science and careers and provide for financial assistance so all girls have access to Girl Scouting opportunities. In addition, the cookie sale is a valuable program experience for the girls. This voluntary program activity helps girls develop self-confidence, self-respect and a strong sense of community.
