Sacrificing of park, no solution to school problem

Open letter to County Executive Robert Janiszewski: You must stop the plundering of North Hudson-Braddock Park. You must stop the building of a high school in our park. Hudson County is the most densely populated county in America. There is not enough open area for county residents to enjoy. Since you took office 12 years ago, you have taken the lead in have the park upgraded and expanded with recreational facilities for the people of Hudson County who flock there. Now there are plans to destroy North Hudson Park–to destroy the quality of recreational life we residents and taxpayers require and demand. There is a campaign underway to savage our park because of crowded schools and the need for a new high school. The existing North Bergen High School has a large field behind it and new construction can increase the size of that high school. Also, there is land available on Tonnelle Avenue which can be used for a new high school. The auditor, Gary Vinci, was quoted as saying that building a high school in North Hudson Park “will have the least amount of impact on the taxpayers.” We are the taxpayers who have lived near and paid for North Hudson Park for almost 50 years. Building a high school in our park will have a very negative impact on the voting taxpayers, as well as all the voting residents of Hudson County. Superintendent of Schools Peter Fischbach and Mayor Nicholas Sacco should be aware that people of Hudson County will not make a deal–they will not give permission to build a high school in our park.
