HUDSON COUNTY — A public meeting for the redrawing of new legislative districts will be held by the 10-member redistricting commission at Jersey City Community College on Sunday, Feb. 13 at 1 p.m.
With the release of the 2010 census figures, the commission has 60 days to redraw state legislative districts. The commission is equally divided between Democrats and Republicans, each of whom will submit a map for the proposed changes. If the commission becomes deadlocked, the state Supreme Court’s chief justice will pick the tie-breaking vote.
Recommendations for changes include dividing Jersey City into two legislative districts as opposed to the three districts that currently divide it. – Al Sullivan
