Danger on 14th street

Dear Editor:
I live on 14th and Clinton in Hoboken. I also pay $10,000 a year in taxes, so I’m a little confused as to why I have to have such an unsafe walk to work each day. The owner of the vacant property nearby has NEVER cleared his sidewalk. The city is obviously not enforcing this, either. We have been forced to walk that horrible cobblestone walkway under the viaduct to get to Willow Ave. It is always dangerous and risky, especially at night, but with the current weather it has been a disaster.
Last week a Hoboken resident in his car tried to run my husband and I over while skating over the ice of the walkway, and proceeded to throw punches and curse us out for being in the street. It’s a mess! EVERY car makes an illegal turn at the end of the viaduct, making it even more of a pedestrian nightmare. I continue to walk in fear each day. I have to worry that a car won’t see us, that we will get run over, or that some other crazy guy will try to beat us up again. Who is worse in this situation – the land owner, the city, or the lunatic who just couldn’t wait until we got out of the street in a snowstorm?? Please someone, take notice of the mess in our neighborhood? Thank you!
PS: After the stranger punched us and cursed us out, he also made an illegal turn, so this guy is guilty on all fronts.
