A funeral mass was performed March 3 at Our Lady of Grace R.C. Church in Hoboken for Michael J. Metcalfe, 72, formerly of Hoboken. He passed away Feb. 26 at the Ocean Medical Center in Brick. Mike was a U.S. Marine veteran and retired Hoboken firefighter where he spent 25 years of benevolent service to the Hoboken community. Mike joined the Marines in 1956 and in 1960 joined the Hoboken Fire Department. He was a member of the Exempt Firefighter’s Association, a member of the Firefighter’s Mutual Benevolent Association and the International Firefighter’s Association. Mike was a heart transplant recipient in 2003 and spent several years of his retirement traveling and fishing with his family and many close friends. Mike is survived by his wife Judith (McMaster); his two brothers, James and Thomas; one sister Geraldine Gallagher; and 17 nieces and 14 nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, James and Catherine (Briggs); a brother William; and a sister Kathleen Metcalfe. Services arranged by the Failla Memorial Home, Hoboken.
