Poll results in for ‘What’s under that dirty snow?’

In last week’s issue of the North Bergen Reporter, we asked residents if they were satisfied with North Bergen’s street sweeping and pothole repairs. To view the results of our poll in conjunction with “What’s under that dirty snow?” visit www.hudsonreporter.com.

A caption that ran in several of our editions last week with a story about accreditation for the county’s psychiatric hospital inadvertently labeled a photo of Freeholder Doreen DiDomenico, who chairs the freeholders’ Health Committee, as County Health and Human Services Director Carol Ann Wilson.

Concerned Citizens waited for meeting that never was

According to a press release from the North Bergen Concerned Citizens Group recently formed to fight traffic and overcrowding brought on by development, the group waited more than a half hour outside Town Hall Tuesday night for a meeting that never happened.
According to the release, after being asked to bring the group’s traffic concerns to the North Bergen Traffic Advisory Board, they researched when the board’s next meeting was on the New Jersey Press Association’s web site, where it was published twice as a legal advertisement, and sent 15 members to attend it this past Tuesday.
However, the group was notified the meeting was cancelled by the building’s janitor. Their attorney, Mario Blanch, said that there was no notice of the meeting cancellation posted on the door, nor had the group received any comment from officials on why this was the case.
Township Spokesperson Phil Swibinski said that the meeting was cancelled due to a lack quorum and that it was a clerk’s oversight for not posting notice. He said that the next meeting will be held on March 22 at 6 p.m.
“It’s just outrageous the way people in this town are treated by our elected and appointed officials,” said NBCCG Co-Chairman Michael Kreutzer. “The people in this community are trying to participate in their government. They take the time to come out on a freezing cold night to have their issues addressed and the town doesn’t even have the courtesy to tape a note to the door to tell people the meeting has been canceled.”

Donate cell phones for a good cause

Unwanted cell phones can be donated on Tuesday, March 1 at Pollo Tropical for a good cause, in exchange for a free shrimp or chicken quesadilla wrap.
The cell phones will be collected for Women in Distress, an organization that will program them to dial 911, in conjunction with the Helping Handhelds Campaign.
There is no limit to how many phones you can donate and they do not need to be operational. All makes and models will be accepted by the cashier.
Pollo Tropical is located at 3103 John F. Kennedy Blvd.
