HUDSON COUNTY — On Sunday, Feb. 27, Sen. Robert Menendez will celebrate Black History Month by honoring outstanding African American New Jerseyans. Dr. Randall Pinkett will emcee, and Kiss FM’s Toya Beasley will be on hand. Performers include Long Branch Middle School Anti-Bullying Crew, Shamsuddin Abdul-Hamid, winner of “Poetry Out Loud,” and Cathedral International Choir of Perth Amboy. Rutgers women’s basketball coach Vivian Stringer will receive special recognition. Reverend Dr. DeForest “Buster” Soaries Jr. will open his First Baptist Church of Lincoln Gardens at 771 Somerset Street, Somerset, for the event at 2:30 p.m.
Members of the New Jersey Legislative Black Caucus, including State Senator Sandra Cunningham, are expected to attend.
