JACKSON, CARL JOSEPH

A funeral service took place March 13 at St. John’s Baptist Church, Jersey City, for Carl Joseph Jackson. He passed away March 8. A native of Savannah, Ga., he was born to the late Mrs. Rosa Newton. He accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at First Bryan Missionary Baptist Church in Savannah. Carl served in the U.S. Army and National Guard for 29 years. Following his military service, he moved to Jersey City and was employed by the Pennsylvania Railroad for a number of years and later with the U.S. Postal Service until his retirement in 1986. Carl was a member of John’s Baptist Church, Jersey City, and served as a faithful and dedicated member of the Senior Usher Board. He was also a faithful member and served as the Marshall of Friendship Lodge 44 of Jersey City, where he mentored several young men. He enjoyed entertaining at his home and family and friends looked forward to his BBQ. Carl is survived by six children, Delores Lockett, Carl Wilson, Carol Green, Sandra Frazier, Sharon Kelly and Ernest Jackson; seventeen grandchildren, thirty-five great-grandchildren; a sister, Daisy Singleton of Savannah, Georgia; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Services arranged by the Jackson Funeral Residence, Jersey City.
