It’s official: Blockbuster closed

HOBOKEN — The imprint of the letters remain on 412 Washington St., but Blockbuster in Hoboken is now officially closed. The corporation had shut down stores throughout the nation, and it was only a matter of time until the financial damage for the company hit Hoboken.
The last rentals from Blockbuster were distributed on Thursday, Feb. 3, and the staff sold the remaining inventory until the final closing date, March 13.
The company filed for bankruptcy in September 2010.
It is unknown at this time what will replace the store in the large, two-story property, as workers could still be seen in the store taking down video racks.
The signs on the door read: “We are closed forever. Do not enter! Thank you for your business.” Another sign also stated that West New York, Bayonne, Clifton Commons, and Newark are the closest locations still open for movie and game rentals.
