NORTH BERGEN – Mayor Nicholas Sacco and North Bergen’s commissioners, running under the banner of “Stable Taxes – Stable Neighborhoods,” filed a combined 53,645 petition signatures to run in the 2011 municipal election, a record number.
Sacco said that last time they filed around 9,000 signatures each.
While the Board of Commissioners only needed 300 signatures in order to file for the election, their campaign team spent three weeks on the campaign trail in the hopes of beating the last record.
Sacco said that he knew the opposition was also out collecting signatures. The deadline to file signatures with the township clerk was at 4 p.m. Monday.
