Dear Editor:
It boggles the mind how we live in a world where the government is more pro-active with cigarette bans than gun control. Before you know it, it will be illegal to smoke in your yard with fines imposed for doing so, yet you’ll be able to have an illegal gun with lesser consequences unless gun control laws are more aggressively pursued.
Where do our elected officials priorities lie? The lack of gun control in contrast to second hand smoke is a much more serious deadly issue.
How many more massacres have to happen with these deaths going in vein until something is done to prevent these terrible tragedies.
My personal view as follows: 1. Mandatory minimal two year incarceration for illegally passing and distributing weapons. 2. In order to receive a gun license a through background check with an in depth mental health evaluation.3. Justifiable reasoning to possess a gun along with training of use, storage and care of weapon. You can call me a simple minded person with limited knowledge on how these laws are introduced and passed, yet my passion to see these senseless acts of violence ceases is by no means simple.
America is supposed to be the land of the free not a land to be held in captivity.
In the words of JFK ask not what your country can do for you. Ask what you can do for your country.
To our elected officials I urge and implore you to do for your country. Enforce gun control and bring the good ol’ U.S.A. back to the “land of the free.”
