A funeral mass took place April 4 at Sts. Joseph and Michael RC Church for Angela J. Hogan, 89. She passed away peacefully on March 30 surrounded by her children and grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband “Bill,” her childhood sweetheart. She was born in Hoboken, the 16th of 17 children, to Vito and Raffaella Carluccio. Gerard Carluccio, OSB STD,” Carmen, Michael, Joseph, John, Anthony, Sebastian, Joseph A., Leonard and Gerard. She is survived by her children, Sr. Patricia Mary, O.P., William F. Jr. and his wife Angie, Richard and his wife Leona, Robert, Stephen and his wife Bridget, Kathleen Cobb and her husband Bob, and Mary Beth. She was predeceased by her daughter Maureen (1986). Hogan III “Duke” and his wife Dana, Bridget Ann Hogan, Natalie Rivieccio and her husband Brian, Matthew Cobb and Mary, Stephanie Hogan, Martin Hogan and Emily Cobb. She was the great-grandmother to Nicholas, Connor, Sophia, Michael, Anthony, Keely and Dominic.
She met her husband of 70 years, “Bill”, while both attended St. Joseph’s Elementary School. She attended St. Michael’s High School and graduated from Holy Family High School. She was a homemaker, and opened her home to all. She was a wife and mother, and always stressed the importance of family and religion. Nothing pleased her more than having a house full of family and friends. There was always room for an extra plate at the table. She was passionate about helping others. No one seeking advice or compassion was ever turned away. Her church was a big part of her life.
As a young girl she and her “Bill” were members of St. Joseph’s Veronica’s Veil Passion Play. She was past Treasurer of the Sacred Heart Society, Dominican Sisters of the 3rd Order “Blue Chapel”, a founding member of the St. Joseph Parish Council, and as a Legion of Mary member, she visited the sick at their homes or at medical facilities twice a week. She had a lovely soprano voice, and was noted for singing the “Ave Maria” at weddings in area churches. She was selected by her parish to sing for Pope John Paul II when he visited NYC in 1979. She had a passion for decorating and was asked by her church and various civic groups to decorate for fund raising events and card parties. She was active in the Union City Democratic Organization, and served as Committeewoman for the 4th Ward.
Nothing pleased her more than having “Holidays at the Hogan’s” where it was not unusual for 30-40 people to gather and enjoy the holidays. She was the nucleus that held the family together, always stressing God and family. Services arranged by the Leber Funeral Home, Union City.
