NORTH BERGEN – Mayor Nicholas Sacco is back for another term as mayor of North Bergen.
Sacco and his team of commissioners were sworn into office on Tuesday afternoon in front of a standing-room-only crowd in the commissioner chambers in North Bergen. The event was held indoors due to the rain.
Sacco and his team of commissioners received approximately 83 percent of the total vote in the May 10 election.
In North Bergen’s form of government, five candidates fill seats on the board, and they choose a mayor from among themselves.
Sacco was chosen as mayor in a brief reorganization meeting after the ceremony.
Sacco thanked his supporters at the ceremony.
“Thank you for being here, thank you for your loyalty, and thank you for the 26 years,” Sacco said.
Sacco first became a North Bergen commissioner in 1985, and has been mayor since 1991.
In addition to Sacco, Hugo Cabrera, Theresa Ferraro, Frank Gargiulo, and Allen Pascual, all incumbents, were also sworn into office as commissioners.
The North Bergen High School Band and Choir also joined the festivities.
