JERSEY CITY – Board of Education President Sterling Waterman planned to host the “Jersey City Education Solutions Together” forum at PS 7 at 7 p.m. on Tuesday.
PS7 is located at 222 Laidlaw Ave.
According to Waterman, the purpose of the forum is to get parents and educators to be less focused on identifying problems in the school system and more motivated to work toward solutions.
Waterman emphasized that he is hosting the forum alone and the event has not been endorsed by the school board or the administration of Schools Superintendent Dr. Charles Epps.
Improving student drop-out rates; raising standardized test scores; strengthening relations between parents, teachers, and the administration; and improving the curriculum are among the issues likely to be discussed.
“The larger issue of education will always be there. But it’s important to get everybody involved in developing solutions,” said Waterman recently.
“People often want to complain, but no one wants to take responsibility. So, I’m challenging everybody – parents, politicians, community leaders, education leaders – to become more involved. Don’t sit on your perch and complain. Come and bring solutions.” – E. Assata Wright
