May 30th- July 4th, friends Stephanie Montanez and Lauren MacDonald, alumni of Hoboken High School’s class of 2008 are embarking on a 5 week volunteer trip to Quito, Ecuador on May 30th. There they will be staying at The Working Boy’s Center based in the capital. The center is dedicated to providing free education for all, from toddlers to adults, three meals a day, church services, health care, and career placement, among other family services. This will be Stephanie’s second time volunteering at the center, and Lauren’s second time in the country. Stephanie and Lauren are both extremely excited to take on this South American adventure as volunteers, and hope to contribute to the community to their fullest capability. They will return on July 4th. Aspiring teachers, Stephanie and Lauren are both minoring in Secondary Education, while Stephanie is focusing on obtaining her degree in Spanish and Lauren in History.
