A funeral mass was offered June 10 at St. Anthony of Padua Church for Walter J. Judd, 97. He died June 7 at his home in Westfield. Born and raised in Jersey City, he spent the past ten years residing in Westfield. Mr. Judd was a veteran of the US Navy having served on the USS Santa Fe during WWII. He was involved in 52 major and 16 minor battles. He was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, the Asiatic-Pacific Area Ribbon with 14 stars, as well as the Philippine Liberation Ribbon with 2 stars. Mr. Judd was the owner of Judd’s Tavern in Jersey City. Mr. Judd was predeceased by his wife, Jean Theresa. He is survived by his daughters, Joanie Niemiera and her husband, Matthew, and Ann Marie Vita and her husband, Vincent. Also surviving are his grandchildren, Dana and Andrew Vita, and Elissa, Julienne, and Maria Niemiera. Services arranged by the Memorial Funeral Home, Fanwood.
