BREAKING: HCPO confirms Weehawken mom is under investigation in connection with possible abuse of abandoned baby; dad not a suspect

HUDSON COUNTY — The mother of a 1-month-old baby girl who was left on the steps of Weehawken High School Friday is the center of an investigation by the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office, according to Hudson County Prosecutor Edward DeFazio.
On Wednesday DeFazio said that it is specifically the 37-year-old mother, not the father or other family members, who is at the center of the investigation being led by the Special Victims Unit.
DeFazio would not discuss any further information about the father, but said that information on the father does not “enter into” the investigation at all.
The baby sustained multiple life-threatening injuries which DeFazio said are “consistent with trauma” that appears to be intentional.
Luckily, the baby seems to be recovering well. DeFazio said she underwent a successful surgery earlier this week and so far is doing okay. “Hopefully the baby will pull through,” he said.
The mother, who is also a teacher in West New York and the mother of other children, is undergoing psychiatric evaluation. DeFazio said that her other children are not part of the investigation being conducted by his office.
