HUDSON COUNTY — Rep. Steve Rothman (D- 9th District), a member of the House Appropriations Committee, called the Republican bill opposing raising the national debt irresponsible.
“The Republicans’ budget proposal is wrong and will hurt our country,” Rothman said “It will lead to drastic cuts in Medicare and Social Security, while unfairly protecting tax breaks for those who make millions and billions of dollars in income each year. The Republican plan represents exactly the type of extreme legislation that keeps us from solving our nation’s fiscal crisis. Supporters should withdraw this shameful bill and work responsibly with both Democrats and Republicans to create American jobs, avoid a default crisis, and ensure that America pays its bills.”
President Barack Obama has promised to veto the bill if the U.S. Senate passes it. The U.S. Senate, however, appears to be poised to introduce a compromise bill.
