A funeral mass took place July 25 at Our Lady of Grace Church, Fairview, for Mario Peter Malavasi, 84, formerly of West New York. He passed away July 20. He was the husband of the late Catherine (nee Sperduto); father of Marie Malavasi Quartello and her husband Mark, Kathleen Malavasi, Peter Malavasi and his wife Joanne Patricia Malavasi Smith and the late Mario Malavasi Jr.; brother of Alice Hroncich; father-in-law of Patricia Dreenan Malavasi; grandfather of Chad Zanardelli, Melinda Malavasi, Stacy Ann Smith, Brad Zanardelli, Laurel Malavasi, Tara Marie Smith, Daniel J. Smith, and Tami Pietro; and great-grandfather of Matthew Smith and extended family. Mario was born in Jersey City and lived in West New York most of his life before moving to Fairview 20 years ago. He was a committeeman for the Democratic Party in West New York, a World War II Army veteran, and belonged to the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was a garage attendant for the Galaxy complex in Guttenberg. Mario was a milkman and bought his own milk business. He and his wife Catherine owned a luncheonette called Kays Corner (Mario’s) and lived at 6601 Palisade Avenue in West New York. Services arranged by the Joseph Z. Konopka Funeral Home, North Bergen.
