A funeral mass was offered Aug. 6 at Holy Rosary Church, Jersey City, for George Puccio, 91. He passed away Aug. 1 at his residence, with his family by his side. Born in Jersey City to the late Dominick and Stella Puccio, he was a lifelong resident. On Jan. 22, 1949 he married his wife of 62 years, Filomena (Coletta) at Holy Rosary Church, Jersey City. As a new addition to the Coletta family, George became a waiter and bartender at the family-owned Coletta’s Bar and Catering Hall on Brunswick Street for many years. He later was employed as a driver for the Jersey City Water Department, retiring in 1982 after 25 and 1/2 years of service.
He was a member of Holy Rosary Church and of the Holy Rosary Senior Citizens. He was a devout Yankees fan. He is survived by his wife Filomena “Phil” (Coletta). He was the father of Stella Santopietro and her husband Michael, and Nicholas Puccio and his wife Meredith. He was the grandfather of Brian and Andrew Puccio. He is also survived by his sister-in-law Elizabeth “Liz” Rega and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his siblings, Anthony, Angelo, Thomas and Frank Puccio, Helen Pilla, Jean Borkowski, Rose Corrigan and Dolores Conti.
