HUDSON COUNTY — At 1 p.m., Mayor Jerramiah Healy of Jersey City ordered a mandatory evacuation of the following locations:
Residents residing in ground floor/1st floor buildings for all streets East of Green Street from Essex St North to Christopher Columbus Drive; Residents residing in ground floor/1st floor buildings for all streets East of Washington Boulevard from Christopher Columbus Drive North to 18th Street; Residents residing in ground floor/1st floor buildings in Port Liberte; Residents residing in ground floor/1st floor buildings in Society Hill; All of Country Village.
In Hoboken, Mayor Dawn Zimmer had evacuated all ground floor units in that city earlier in the day.
Weather forecasters are predicting a possible storm surge of 5-8 feet, and Zimmer said today that she was concerned that the entire city could be under five feet of water.
Also today, the Liberty Humane Society shelter in Jersey City evacuated pets to other shelters. And Jersey City has added a pet-friendly shelter location to its other five shelters at the Pershing Field community center. See the city website for more information.
