9/11 remembrance display at the library

During the 10th anniversary of Sept. 11, the Secaucus Public Library and Business Resource Center will display 9/11 memorabilia. The display will continue through Sept. 30. It will include memorabilia from the Pentagon, WTC, and a sculpture.

Congressman Steve Rothman tours Secaucus to view Hurricane Damage

Rep. Rothman toured Secaucus on Sept. 1 with Mayor Michael Gonnelli to meet residents whose homes were affected by Hurricane Irene. He let residents know that federal help is available and that his office is available to offer assistance in getting aid. Rothman later announced that FEMA has approved assistance to individuals and municipalities in Hudson County.
Residents can call Rothman’s Hackensack office at: (201) 646-0808 for more information. Federal assistance may include temporary housing, repair, replacement, or other aid such as Disaster Unemployment Assistance and Small Business Administration disaster loans, according to a release.

‘Open Mic Night’ returns to library

The Secaucus Public Library and Business Resource Center is hosting an “Open Mic Night” on Thursday, Sept. 15, that will begin at 7:30 p.m. This event is open to all local poets, acoustic musicians, and prose writers. The Open Mic Night will take place in the library’s Story Tower on the first level. Readers and performers will have a limit of five minutes so that every participant will have an opportunity to be heard.

Guided canoe tour

New Jersey Meadowlands Commission (NJMC) will lead a guided three-hour canoe tour Saturday Sept. 17 at 8:30 a.m. The tour departs from Saw Mill Creek Wildlife Management Area in Lyndhurst. The trip is led by an experienced NJMC guide and offers the chance to see amazing diversity in vegetation and wildlife. Guides will introduce the basics of salt marsh ecology, point out birds and other wildlife, and discuss the area’s history as participants enjoy the magnificent scenery on a leisurely journey. The NJMC provides all equipment. The tour is for ages 10 and up and costs $15. Registration required; space is limited. To register or for directions to the departure point call (201) 460-4640.
