HOBOKEN GOOD NEWS

Robert and Marietta Chaneski, lifelong residents of Hoboken, observed their 50th wedding anniversary on Friday, June 17, 2011, at a private dinner with their four children, three daughters-in-law, and eight grandchildren. The couple met at a VFW dance in 1958 and were married at St. Ann’s Church 3 years later.

Robert was a regular fixture on Hoboken’s downtown streets, through wind, rain, sun, and snow, as a letter carrier for over 37 years. Marietta, nee Altomare, attended AJ Demarest High School and worked for 25 years in the records department of the former St Mary Hospital where she too was a friendly and familiar face. After their mutual retirement 11 years ago (on the same day), they dedicated themselves to their growing list of beautiful grandchildren, and also the occasional trip to Atlantic City or card game with close friends.

In the 50 wonderful years they’ve been wed, Bob and Marietta’s strong, loving marriage has been a shining example, and a calm, steady source of happiness for all of their friends and family. A “perfect match” in so many ways, those who know them count themselves lucky, as the happy couple always show their warmhearted nature, gentle humor, and generosity of spirit.
