A funeral took place Oct. 1 at St. Paul’s The Apostle Church, Jersey City, for Grace (Fletcher) Waltz, 83. She passed away at her home on Sept. 24 surrounded by her family. A lifelong Jersey City resident, she was the daughter of the late Theresa (McCabe) Fletcher Kern, John Fletcher and her step father Ned Kern. Predeceased by her siblings Herbert Fletcher, John Fletcher and Rose (Fletcher) Hunter. She was also the wife of fifty years to the late John J. Waltz. She is survived by three children John Waltz and his wife, Gail, Jean Cubberly and her husband Michael and Theresa DeCicco. She is also survived by three grandchildren, Dennis DeCicco, Anthony DeCicco and Hope (DeCicco) Parra and four great grandchildren. She was by many nieces, nephews, friends and neighbors. Grace was a great counter person, first working at her grandmother’s candy store as a young child then spent many years at Grenells, in later years working the counter at the family’s business. Her most important role was that of homemaker. She also found time over the years to volunteer for the war effort and many community activities such as the Greenville National Little League. Grace was a graduate of St. Paul’s Grammar school and then attended St. Dominic’s High School afterwards. She was an avid New York Mets fan. A dedicated parishioner of St. Paul The Apostle Church, she would wish in lieu of flowers a donation be made in her name to the church directed to feed the poor and clothe the needy.
