Golden Door International Film Festival in Jersey City holds pre-fest launch

JERSEY CITY – On Saturday organizers of the upcoming Golden Door International Film Festival held a party during the annual Jersey City Artists Studio Tour weekend to launch the upcoming festival.
The four-day festival will take place in Jersey City from Oct. 13 through Oct. 16.
Throughout the festival, movies will be screened at several venues throughout the city, including Bar Majestic, LITM, the Landmark Loew’s Jersey Theatre, and Art House Productions. The festival will also include a number of filmmaking seminars which will take place at the rotunda in City Hall.
The festival will include 40 independent films from veteran and emerging filmmakers and will showcase both feature-length movies and film shorts.
The Hudson Reporter is a cosponsor of the Golden Door International Film Festival, along with Provident Bank and Panepinto Properties.
The film festival will kick off with a gala opening at the Landmark Loew’s Theatre at
Journal Square, on Thursday, Oct. 13 at 6:00 p.m.
To highlight the much anticipated film festival, clips from many of the 40 films in competition were shown in a screening room throughout Saturday’s launch party, which was held at 70 Greene St. in Jersey City. And guests were entertained by Liz Williams and Gene Clemetson, a jazz ensemble.
Celebrated film actor Paul Sorvino (“Goodfellas,” “Reds”) attended the party
– and even treated guests with a few songs. Filmmaker Federico Castelluccio was also in attendance.
Sorvino will receive a lifetime achievement award at the festival. Academy Award-winning film director and Jersey City native Leon Gast will receive the keys to the city during the event.
