Historical Society will explore history of St. Michael’s Monastery
The Hudson County Genealogical and Historical Society will present “The History of St. Michael’s Monastery” on Saturday, Oct. 8 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Hudson Korean Presbyterian Church (formerly St. Michael’s) at 2019 West St., Union City. Built between 1869 and 1875, St. Michael’s is listed on the U.S. National Register of Historic Places.
VITAS Innovative Hospice Care seeks volunteers
Vitas Innovative Hospice Care of New Jersey North is looking for volunteers in Hudson County. Volunteers will visit patients in nursing homes, assisted living communities, and residences in order to provide support. Tasks include taking care of household chores and spending time with the patients.
Volunteers will be trained in listening skills and family dynamics. They will also learn the appropriate way to communicate with terminally ill patients and their families.

New Jersey Meadowlands Commission welcomes new CFO
The New Jersey Meadowlands Commission (NJMC) hired a new director of finance and chief fiscal officer, Frank Elenio. He will fill in the role held previously by Irfan Bora who retired in July after 31-years with the Commission. Elenio has 25 years of financial expertise in the public and private sectors and he has spearheaded the growth and expansion of several multi-million dollar companies.
Elenio’s areas of expertise include government accounting, financial planning, analysis and reporting, audit and regulatory compliance, credit and asset management, and cost controls and savings. He began his career at Ernst & Young. Elenio, a certified public accountant, earned a master’s of business administration from Seton Hall University and a bachelor’s degree in business administration with a concentration in accounting from Montclair State University. He resides in Ridgefield with his wife and teenage son and daughter. Elenio is a member of the borough’s volunteer fire department and President of the Ridgefield Borough Athletic Organization.
