Alleged burglary on 700 block of 79th street

One man and a juvenile were arrested Tuesday morning on burglary charges following a call from a nearby resident who reported suspicious activity, police said.
At 9:30 a.m. on the 700 block of 79th street, Investigator Anthony Cirri discovered that individuals had allegedly burglarized a residence in the area, according to Lt. Patrick Irwin.
Barry Maravi, 21, of North Bergen, was arrested and charged with burglary. An accompanying juvenile was also arrested. After being processed at North Bergen police headquarters, the juvenile was released to parents, according to police.
Bail was set at $10,000 for Maravi.

Poker game investigation continues

Police made two more arrests last week as part of an ongoing investigation into the armed robbery of a poker game on the 1200 block of 79th street on July 15 at approximately 4 a.m.
According to Lt. Irwin, several individuals allegedly entered the card game with handguns. They made their way to the garage of the residence where the game was underway. The suspects allegedly forced all of the people at gunpoint to the ground. One woman was also allegedly struck in the head with a gun after moving too slow.
$5,000 was removed from the table, as well as purses, wallets, and jewelry, according to police.
Andrew Cruz, 32, Guttenberg, Christian Caraballo, 28, West New York were arrested during the week of Sept. 11. After continued investigation, North Bergen Police also arrested Christina Slaughter, 39, Leesburg, and Herberto Martinez, 38, Guttenberg on Friday, Sept. 23. Each were charged with conspiracy to commit robbery, robbery, possession of a firearm for unlawful purposes, unlawful possession of a handgun, criminal restraint, aggravated assault, burglary, and gang criminality.
Slaughter was employed as a corrections officer during the time of arrest, police say.
“Apparently these parties were also [allegedly] members of the Bloods street gang,” said Lt. Irwin. “It’s been a little hectic up here.”
Bail was set at $250,000, cash only. Police are still searching for Jonathan Munoz, 20, of West New York. Police have also asked the public for any information on Munoz.
