A mass of Christian burial took place Oct. 13 at St. Joseph’s Church for Mary Markey McDonald, 83. She died Oct. 10 at the Jersey City Medical Center after a short illness. Her husband, William A. McDonald, passed away 4 weeks ago. They would have celebrated their 57th wedding anniversary on Oct. 9th. She is survived by six daughters: Mary Pat Wallace and her husband Thomas Wallace, Anne Marie (Mimi) McDonald Hartnett and her husband Edward Hartnett, Maureen O’Halloran and her husband John O’Halloran, Maggie Condon and her husband Cushing Condon, Bridget Evans and her husband Jim Evans, Kathleen (Katy) Conte and her husband Martin Conte. She is also survived by 13 grandchildren: Meg, Nora and Kathleen Wallace, Eamon and Seton Hartnett, Annie O’Halloran, Mary Clare and Margaret Condon, Lili and Mae Evans, Matthew, William and James Conte. She is also survived by her twin sister, Anne M. Markey. Mrs. McDonald was predeceased by her parents William E. Markey and Anna Fitzgerald Markey. Mrs. McDonald was a graduate of the Academy of Saint Aloysius, the College of Saint Elizabeth and held a master’s degree from New York University. She served the Home Economics Department at Ferris High School both as teacher and department coordinator for over 25 years. Mary was a lifelong communicant of Saint Joseph Church and was active in many parish activities. Mary enjoyed playing the piano surrounded by her children and grandchildren. She was an accomplished knitter who supplied family and friends with sweaters of every design. Mary loved the Adirondack Mountains and for more than 80 years spent summer vacations at Old Forge, New York. Services arranged by the Riotto Funeral Home, Jersey City.
